Who was Polyphemus the Cyclops in Greek mythology?
In Greek mythology, Polyphemus was a huge, one-eyed monster and, like most monsters, the son of Poseidon. In Homer’s Odyssey, Odysseus and his men had a disastrous run-in with Polyphemus on the island of the Cyclopes (the plural of Cyclops). Not all the stories about Polyphemus were terrible, though, and some authors tell about his unrequited love for the beautiful nymph Galatea. You can meet Polyphemus and Galatea in The Classical Workshop’s take on the classic game of memory match: Mythology Match: A Memory Game, perfect for kids age 3+!
